2018 Canada Open Karate Championships: June 2 & 3

Karate Canada has sanctioned a new annual Karate BC event called the Canada Open Karate Championships, to be held at the beautiful Richmond Oval Olympic Arena near the Vancouver International Airport in British Columbia, Canada.

The Canada Open will become one of the largest karate tournaments to be held in North America by offering divisions for all levels and ages using World Karate Federation (WKF) rules.

  • Novice
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced
  • Elite
  • Team Kata
  • Kobudo (weapons)
  • Para-Karate

There are no qualification requirements for the Canada Open. Simply read the tournament brochure and register online as a club team, or as an individual if your club is not organizing a team.

Fun extras!

Flying sidekick contest for all ages is a super exciting event after each age division is completed. If you can run, jump over a high-jump bar, kick sideways into a blocker, and land on your feet, you can try again after the bar is raised. One winner for each age group wins the gold medal and bragging rights!

Stay tuned here, as a Flying side kick contest video will be posted here soon so everyone can practice!

Also, be part of the largest karate kata demonstration in Canadian history! Anyone who practices karate, competitors and non-competitors (club members, instructors, parents, etc) can learn the fun ‘Canada Open Kata’ and join hundreds of others to perform the kata together to the beat of a Japanese drum! See details below.
With the global karate community expanding each year, and karate now being an Olympic sport in the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, come join us in June to be part of this exciting new championships!
